Hey Amazing Farmers’ Market Folks: BCAFM is seeking board members!

BCAFM is currently seeking nominations to fill board of director positions. All positions are directors at large and are 3 year terms. The BCAFM board meets approximately 10 times per year via ZOOM, and when travelling is possible, in person once a year for a planning retreat and again in person at the BCAFM annual conference.

How to Submit a Nomination Package

The nomination package includes these three requirements:

  1. Online nomination application completed by applicant. You can preview the application here.
  2. Completed Farmers’ Market Endorsement Form, submitted to chair@bcfarmersmarket.org. You can download the form here. Farmers’ market endorsement must be provided by the BCAFM member farmers’ market by way of vote.
  3. Minutes of the board meeting at which the candidate was nominated and approved by their farmers’ market board. Submit this to chair@bcfarmersmarket.org along with the completed Farmers’ Market Endorsement Form.

Without a completed nomination package, including completed online nomination application, farmers’ market endorsement form and a copy of the minutes, the nomination will not be accepted.

About the BCAFM Board

The BC Association of Farmers’ Markets (BCAFM) board of directors is seeking skilled leaders and people from the BC farmers’ market sector who want to have a role in shaping the future of farmers’ markets, communities, and food systems across British Columbia.

We are a passionate group who are enthusiastic about farmers’ markets and food security, governance and the responsibility that comes with it, and we work hard to ensure we are doing everything we can to support our members through our small and mighty staff team.

The BCAFM Board is committed to building diversity on our board and encourage applicants from all over British Columbia with diverse backgrounds, communities and lived experiences to apply. Please consider nominating your farmers’ market vendors, board members and volunteers for the BCAFM board.

About this Role: BCAFM Board of Director  

Are you passionate about local food, community growth, and sustainable food systems? The BC Association of Farmers’ Markets (BCAFM) is seeking enthusiastic and skilled leaders to join our Board of Directors from all regions across British Columbia. As a Board Director, you’ll have a pivotal role in shaping the future of farmers’ markets across British Columbia. You’ll collaborate with like-minded folks to support, develop, and promote thriving markets, farmers, and small businesses. If you’re eager to sow the seeds of change this is your chance to dig in and make a difference! 

In 2025, our goal is to realize the greatest regional representation on the BCAFM Board. Therefore, we are especially interested in receiving Board Director nomination applications from the following regions:  

  • Kootenays & Columbia Basin 
  • Metro Vancouver 
  • Sea to Sky 
  • Vancouver Island & Gulf Islands 

PRIMARY Board Director RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Governance: Uphold the mission and values of the BCAFM by making informed decisions that guide the organization’s policies and practices. 
  • Financial Oversight: Monitor the financial health of the association, ensuring revenue and resources are sufficient and used effectively to support the organizational mission. 
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to setting the direction and goals for the association to ensure the continued growth and success of farmers’ markets in BC. 
  • Advocacy and Promotion: Act as an ambassador for the association, promoting the benefits of farmers’ markets and supporting local food systems within the community and beyond. 
  • Meeting Participation: Actively participate in and contribute to discussions, review progress, and make key decisions during board meetings. 
  • Collaboration: Work closely with fellow board members, staff team, and stakeholders to enhance the association’s impact and reach.
