Farmers' Markets For All!, BCAFM's annual conference, brings farmers' market organizers, growers, small scale food processors, artisans, and agricultural and community leaders together to network, acquire new industry contacts, gain new skills, and come away inspired to strengthen BC's local food sector. The event includes networking opportunities, 13 workshops, a tradeshow, welcome reception, Saturday night dinner banquet & Farmers' Market Awards, silent auction, and more! The conference is being held at the Inn at the Quay in New Westminster, March 3-5, 2017.

We are looking for volunteers to fill multiple positions throughout the three-day conference: Position: Registration
Be the first to meet and welcome conference delegates as they come through the doors!
  • Various shifts throughout the days: Friday, March 3 (12:00pm-4:30pm); Saturday, March 4 (7:30am-4:30pm); Sunday, March 5 (7:45am-12:00pm)
  • Deliverables: Welcome guests; distribute name badges and sign-in delegates; answer questions about the conference; accept registration payments
  • Qualifications: Friendly, outgoing, personable, organized, and pays attention to detail
  • Time Commitment: Volunteers will be asked to attend a brief orientation session at the conference venue before their shift (details TBD). There are various shifts for this position to choose from.
  • Accountability: Volunteers will be assigned a supervisor/contact at the orientation session, and will work with BCAFM organizers and other conference volunteers

Position: Workshop Host
Inside access to workshops and an opportunity to network with presenters.
  • Various shifts throughout the days: Friday, March 3 (12:45pm-5:30pm); Saturday, March 4 (8:15am-5:45pm); Sunday, March 5 (8:00am-1:15pm)
  • Deliverables: Support speaker with his/her administrative and personal needs; distribute and collect evaluation forms; present gift to workshop speaker
  • Qualifications: Friendly, outgoing, punctual, personable; strong communication skills; ability to facilitate an audience; confident public speaking skills
  • Time Commitment: Volunteers will be asked to attend a brief orientation session at the conference venue before their shift (details TBD). There are various shifts for this position to choose from. Volunteers are asked to sign up for a minimum of two 1.5 to 3.5-hour shifts, and are on duty during the workshops.
  • Accountability: Volunteers will be assigned a supervisor/contact at the orientation session, and will work with BCAFM organizers and other conference volunteers

Position: Technical Support
Inside access to workshops and an opportunity to network with presenters.
  • Various shifts throughout the days: Friday, March 3 (12:30pm-4:15pm); Saturday, March 4 (8:00am-4:30pm); Sunday, March 5 (8:00am-12:00pm)
  • Deliverables: Support speaker, videographer and photographer with their tech and supply needs
  • Qualifications: Friendly, outgoing, punctual, personable; strong communication skills; ability to problem-solve and trouble-shoot technology and presentation materials (computer, projector, flipcharts, etc.)
  • Time Commitment: Volunteers will be asked to attend a brief orientation session at the conference venue before their shift (details TBD). There are various shifts for this position to choose from. Volunteers are asked to sign up for a minimum of two 1 to 4-hour shifts, and are on duty during the workshops.
  • Accountability: Volunteers will be assigned a supervisor/contact at the orientation session, and will work with BCAFM organizers and other conference volunteers

Position: Welcome Reception
Be the first to welcome participants from across the province to the conference, and connect with BCAFM members. Free entry into the Welcome Reception featuring local-focused appetizers and beverages.
  • Shift: Friday, March 3 (6:00pm-8:00pm)
  • Deliverables: Welcome guests; orient them to the event features; confirm they have an entry pass
  • Qualifications: Friendly, outgoing, personable, organized, and pays attention to detail
  • Time Commitment: Volunteers will be asked to attend a brief orientation session at the conference venue before their shift (details TBD)
  • Accountability: Volunteers will be assigned a supervisor/contact at the orientation session, and will work with BCAFM organizers and other conference volunteers

Position: Banquet & Farmers' Market Awards
Join us for a sumptuous feast of local foods and drink! Get free entry into the Banquet & Farmers’ Market Awards
  • Shift: Saturday, March 4 (6:00pm-8:00pm)
  • Deliverables: Welcome guests; collect banquet tickets; accept ticket payments
  • Qualifications:  Friendly, outgoing and personable
  • Time Commitment: Volunteers will be asked to attend a brief orientation session at the conference venue before their shift (details TBD). This volunteer shift is Saturday, March 6, 6pm-8pm
  • Accountability: Volunteers will be assigned a supervisor/contact at the orientation session, and will work with BCAFM organizers and other conference volunteers

Position: Silent Auction
A favourite of the conference! Provide support and help organize this event featuring goodies made, baked, and grown from across the province
  • Shifts: Saturday, March 4 (4:00pm-6:00pm and/or 9:00pm-11:00pm)
  • Deliverables: Help auction coordinator with set-up and collecting/processing final payments; distribute won items
  • Qualifications: Organized, pays attention to detail, experience handling cash and running credit transactions
  • Time Commitment: Volunteers will be asked to attend a brief orientation session at the conference venue before their shift (details TBD).
  • Accountability: Volunteers will be assigned a supervisor/contact at the orientation session, and will work with BCAFM organizers and other conference volunteers
