Food Literacy Webinar: From Concept to Practice

In this webinar we will have 3 presenters discussing how "Food Literacy" relates to "Health Literacy" and how to implement it in practice.  The topic of food literacy will be showcased and two current food literacy initiatives in British Columbia (Farm to School BC and Farmers' Market Nutrition Coupon Program) will be presented.
 
The webinar will be facilitated by Dr. Irving Rootman, Chair of the B.C. Health Literacy Networks with three speakers presenting in-depth about the importance of this emerging concept from their lens. 9am-10am.

* Dr. Doris Gillis, a Senior Research Professor in the Department of Human Nutrition at St.Francis Xavier University;
 
* Richard Han, Provincial Manager of Farm to School BC program and;
 
*  Peter Leblanc, Program Manager of BCAFM's Farmers Market Nutrition Coupon Program. 
 
Participants in this webinar can expect to increase their awareness and understanding of:
     * The landscape of health literacy initiatives undertaken in BC
     * How food literacy as a sub-concept of health literacy is being framed in the current literature
     * The practice of food literacy through two real life examples of initiatives in BC settings reaching children as well as adults
     * How food literacy may be relevant to opportunities they see for promoting population health in BC Format​
